The KENNAMETAL 3127186 is a solid carbide threading insert designed for precision thread-cutting operations in metalworking applications. Built to NAS style geometry and manufactured in KC5025 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN finish, this insert delivers consistent cutting performance across internal and external threading passes. The TiAlN coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection, extending tool life in demanding materials. Rated at 4 TPI (threads per inch), the insert is configured for left-hand threading and fits the Top Notch series tooling system. It is sized at insert size 3 and carries material grades C2 and C6, making it appropriate for a range of metalcutting setups. Machinists and toolroom technicians working with turning centers and manual lathes are the primary installers.
This threading insert is suited for production and job-shop environments where both internal and external thread forms are required. The NAS style profile supports standard thread forms, and the Top Notch series designation ensures compatibility with corresponding Top Notch style holders. Left-hand orientation makes it the correct selection for reverse-thread applications or left-hand spindle configurations. The insert ships individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 5 units, which is typical for indexable carbide insert purchasing in trade and industrial supply channels.
Designed for use with Top Notch series threading toolholders accepting a size 3 NAS style insert. Suitable for both internal and external threading operations as noted in the product specifications.
Threading inserts are installed and indexed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the lathe or turning center is fully stopped and the spindle is locked before seating or replacing the insert. Confirm the toolholder matches the Top Notch series and accepts a size 3 insert before installation. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for the clamping screw to avoid insert movement or fracture during cutting.
