The KENNAMETAL 2984359 is a solid carbide milling insert manufactured to ISO code EDCT140416PDERLD and ANSI code EC1416ELD. It carries a KC522M grade designation and features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) TiAlN coating for enhanced wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert is parallelogram-shaped (EDCT series) with a 70-degree included angle, a right-hand cutting orientation, and a positive rake geometry. With two cutting edges per insert and an LD chip breaker, it is suited for productive milling passes on a range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments are the primary installers and users.
This insert is designed for milling applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, covering material grades P, M, K, and S. The positive rake and honed cutting edge style reduce cutting forces, making it a practical choice for finishing and semi-finishing passes on difficult-to-machine alloys. The LD chip breaker geometry assists with chip control across these varied workpiece materials. It is compatible with the Mill 1-14 cutter series and is held in the cutter body by a screw-type insert holding method.
Compatible with the Mill 1-14 cutter series. Insert is held by screw-type clamping. Confirm pocket geometry, insert size code 1416, and hand orientation before installation. No additional compatible model numbers were specified in available product data.
Milling insert replacement is performed by machining technicians or CNC operators with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped before accessing the cutter body. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the clamping screw as specified by the cutter body manufacturer — do not substitute driver sizes. Inspect the insert pocket seat and screw threads for damage or debris before seating the new insert. Confirm insert hand orientation and chip breaker position match the cutter body requirements prior to resuming operation.
