The KENNAMETAL 2984057 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-speed material removal in non-ferrous metal applications. It carries the ISO designation EDCT140431PDFRLDJ and manufacturer grade KC410M, with a titanium diboride (TiB2) coating applied via PVD process. The insert features a parallelogram shape with a 70-degree included angle, a positive rake geometry at 15 degrees, and sharp cutting edges for clean, low-force cuts. Two cutting edges per insert and a right-hand orientation make it a direct fit for compatible Kennametal milling cutter bodies. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is intended for milling non-ferrous metals such as aluminum and copper alloys in both roughing and finishing operations where sharp, positive rake geometry is required. It is compatible with Kennametal Mill 1-14 cutter series bodies and is held in place by screw-type insert clamping. The LD chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during high-feed passes. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and pocket milling on CNC machining centers running non-ferrous workpieces.
Designed for use with Kennametal Mill 1-14 series milling cutter bodies. Insert conforms to ANSI code EC1431FLDJ and ISO code EDCT140431PDFRLDJ. Compatible cutter bodies must accept a right-hand, screw-held parallelogram insert in the EDCT series seat configuration.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key driver specified by the cutter body manufacturer to seat the clamp screw — do not overtighten by feel alone. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before loading a new insert. Confirm insert orientation and hand designation match the cutter body before resuming operation.
