The KENNAMETAL 2982021 is a solid carbide milling insert in the OFKT series, designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding milling applications. Manufactured to ISO code OFKT06L5AFENLB and ANSI code OFKT53AFEN6LB, this insert features an octagonal shape with 8 cutting edges, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, and a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process. The LB chip breaker geometry and honed cutting edge style support controlled chip formation and edge stability when cutting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Thickness is 0.1969 inches and the inscribed circle measures 0.5787 inches.
This insert is suited for use in grade KC725M, a coated carbide grade rated for material groups P, M, and S — covering carbon and alloy steels, stainless steels, and difficult-to-cut superalloys and titanium. It is compatible with KSOM cutter series bodies and is appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes where depth of cut reaches up to 0.2950 inches. The neutral hand designation makes it adaptable across standard milling setups. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers in aerospace, energy, and general metalworking shops are the typical end users.
Compatible with KSOM cutter series milling bodies. ISO designation OFKT06L5AFENLB and ANSI designation OFKT53AFEN6LB. Designed as a direct-fit insert for tool bodies accepting OFKT series geometry with a 0.2165-inch hole diameter for screw retention.
Insert seating and screw torque should follow the cutter body manufacturer's specification sheet for the KSOM series. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key supplied or specified by the cutter body manufacturer — do not substitute fastener drivers that may damage the mounting screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
