The KENNAMETAL 2976494 is an indexable grooving and cutoff toolholder designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. It features a left-hand orientation and accepts A4..02.. series inserts held in place by a clamp-style insert retention method. The toolholder carries a minimum groove width of 0.079 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.067 inches. Built to the A4SM toolholder style in the A4 series, it uses a 1 x 1 inch square shank and has an overall length of 6 inches (152.40 mm). This tool is typically installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians performing grooving, parting, and cutoff work on external diameters.
This toolholder is suited for external grooving and cutoff applications on production turning equipment. The left-hand configuration makes it appropriate for operations where the tool approaches the workpiece from the left side of the turret or tool post. With a shank length of 4.622 inches and a head height of 1.240 inches, it fits standard OD turning setups on machines accepting 1 inch square-shank tooling. Coolant-through capability is not included in this model. It is commonly used in job shop and production environments where repeatable groove width and depth control are required.
Designed for use with A4..02.. series indexable inserts. This toolholder belongs to the KENNAMETAL A4 series and uses the A4SM toolholder style. Specific machine compatibility depends on turret or tool post size accepting 1 inch square-shank holders.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before mounting or removing the toolholder. Ensure the shank seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Follow the machine tool manufacturer torque guidelines for tool post or turret clamping hardware. Index or replace inserts only after confirming the machine is in a safe, non-rotating state.
