The KENNAMETAL 2877454 is a solid carbide milling insert in the EDPT series, designed for high-performance face and shoulder milling operations. This single-sided, right-hand parallelogram insert carries a TiAlN PVD coating applied over a KC725M carbide substrate, delivering heat resistance and wear life in demanding cutting environments. It features a positive rake geometry with a honed cutting edge and an HD chip breaker, producing controlled chip formation and reduced cutting forces. With a 15-degree relief angle and a 0.031-inch corner radius, this insert is suited for moderate to aggressive feed rates across a range of workpiece materials. Licensed trade machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers and end users.
This insert is intended for steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium applications, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, and S. It fits the Kennametal Mill 1-18 cutter series. Typical use cases include finishing and semi-finishing passes on machining centers and CNC mills in aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking production environments. The HD chip breaker designation makes it particularly well suited for harder alloy steels and high-temperature alloys where chip control is critical.
Designed for use with the Kennametal Mill 1-18 cutter series. Insert size code 1808 with an inscribed circle of 0.4287 inches. Compatible cutter bodies that accept the EDPT style, right-hand, screw-clamped insert in this size range are appropriate pairings.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer to seat the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert, as contamination will affect runout and edge life.
