The KENNAMETAL 2629780 is an indexable slotting cutter in the KSSS series, designed for milling slots and grooves in a wide range of workpiece materials. It features a 4-inch cutter diameter, a 0.614-inch cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.887 inches. The cutter seats ten indexable inserts held in place by screws and runs with a neutral rake geometry. Shell mount connection with a 1-inch hole accommodates standard arbors used in horizontal and vertical milling setups. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers. Maximum spindle speed is 17,100 RPM.
This slotting cutter is suited for slotting, grooving, and gang-milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its neutral cutting direction makes it compatible with both climb and conventional milling strategies. The 2-inch-plus hub diameter and overall height of 1.5 inches are typical of production-environment shell-mount tooling used on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills requiring rigid, high-tooth-count slot milling capability.
Compatible insert styles include SPCT, SPET, and SPPT. Specific verified compatible inserts include SPCT 10T304PPELLD2, SPCT 10T304PPFRLE, SPCT 10T312PPERLD2, SPCT 10T316FNLE, SPCT 10T320ENLD2, SPCT 10T3PPELLD2, SPCT 10T304PPERLD2, SPCT 10T304PPFLLE, SPCT 10T312PPELLD2, SPCT 10T312PPFLLE, SPCT 10T312PPFRLE, SPCT 10T316ENLD2, and SPCT 10T3PPERLD2. Insert inscribed circle is 10 mm. This cutter is part of the KSSS toolholder series under catalog number KSSS400BSP10N625.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. The spindle must be fully powered down and locked out before mounting or removing the cutter from the arbor. Inspect each insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating new inserts. Torque clamping screws per the insert manufacturer specification and verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning the cut.
