The KENNAMETAL 2599498 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the NG4250 insert style with a KC5010 grade, it features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that provides thermal resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting environments. The insert is left-hand oriented with a 0.25 inch (6.35 mm) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.25 inch (6.35 mm). A neutral rake geometry and a 0.57 mm corner radius contribute to stable chip formation and predictable surface finishes. Machining professionals and toolroom technicians working in production turning applications are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for grooving operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials where the KC5010 carbide grade and TiAlN coating deliver reliable performance. The Top Notch series is a widely adopted platform in production turning environments, and the NG style seats into compatible Top Notch insert seat size 4 toolholders. The left-hand orientation makes it appropriate for specific approach directions and toolholder configurations. Typical applications include external grooving, plunge cutting, and face grooving where controlled width and depth are required. Maximum depth of cut range is 0.20 to 0.30 inch (5.00 to 10.00 mm).
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders accepting insert seat size 4 and the NG insert style. Consult the KENNAMETAL Top Notch toolholder catalog to confirm holder compatibility before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with indexable insert tooling. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or replacing the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping hardware specified for the Top Notch toolholder - do not over-tighten the clamping screw, as carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture under excessive clamping force. Verify insert seating and orientation before resuming cutting operations.
