The KENNAMETAL 2598807 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the NG3105 insert size within the Top Notch series, it features a KC5010 grade carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for heat resistance and extended tool life in steel and cast iron applications. The left-hand orientation positions the cutting edge for right-to-left feed direction. Cutting width is 2.67 mm (0.1051 inches) with a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm (0.1500 inches). A neutral rake geometry and a 0.19 mm (0.0075 inch) corner radius provide controlled chip flow and reduced cutting forces on medium to heavy stock removal cuts. This insert is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC toolroom technicians.
The 2598807 is suited for turning operations in job shops, production machining facilities, and maintenance shops requiring reliable groove geometry in ferrous and hardened materials. The KC5010 PVD TiAlN coating targets applications where thermal load management and edge wear resistance are priorities. The Top Notch series toolholder system provides a repeatable, positive-lock seat for this insert style, making it a common choice on high-cycle production lathes where consistent groove width and depth are critical. The left-hand designation must be matched to the appropriate Top Notch toolholder configuration before installation.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders accepting NG-style grooving inserts in the 3105 insert size. Left-hand toolholder configuration required. Confirm toolholder acceptance of the NG3105 insert style before ordering.
Installation and replacement of carbide grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine spindle stopped and all motion axes at rest. Use the appropriate Top Notch clamping screw and torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer; do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide insert body. Inspect the toolholder pocket seat for chips, debris, or wear before seating the insert. Verify left-hand orientation and feed direction match the programmed toolpath before resuming cutting operations.
