The KENNAMETAL 2598761 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the NG3078 insert style in the Top Notch series, this insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and the KC5010 manufacturer grade, a combination suited for high-speed grooving in steel and cast iron at elevated temperatures. The cutting width is 1.98 mm and the maximum depth of cut is 2.39 mm, placing it in the 2.00 to 3.00 mm maximum depth of cut range. Right-hand orientation and a neutral rake geometry make it a direct fit for standard Top Notch-compatible toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in production turning and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for use in ferrous and non-ferrous grooving applications where tight dimensional tolerances and surface finish consistency are required. The KC5010 grade with TiAlN coating performs well in interrupted cuts and high-temperature environments typical of steel and ductile iron machining. The 55-degree included angle and 0.19 mm corner radius make it appropriate for detailed groove profiles where edge definition matters. Typical applications include groove turning on shafts, hydraulic components, and similar precision turned parts in both production and repair shop settings.
Designed as a direct replacement insert for Top Notch series toolholders accepting NG3078 style inserts. Consult the toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm seat and clamping compatibility before installation.
This insert is installed and replaced by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing any cutting insert. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified for the Top Notch toolholder to avoid seat damage or insert fracture. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
