The KENNAMETAL 2549023 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the NG3047 insert size within Kennametal's Top Notch series, it features a KC5010 grade carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for improved wear resistance and heat tolerance at the cutting edge. The insert is configured for left-hand cutting with a neutral rake geometry, a 1.19 mm cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 1.91 mm. A corner radius of 0.19 mm reduces edge chipping on finish cuts. This insert is sold individually and is intended for installation by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production or job-shop environments.

This insert is suited for light-to-medium grooving operations in the C3 and C4 material grade range, which covers cast iron and non-ferrous materials as well as harder steel alloys. The Top Notch series design makes it compatible with standard Top Notch toolholders that accept the NG3047 insert seat. It is commonly used on small- to medium-bore OD grooving applications where precise groove width and depth control are critical.
