The KENNAMETAL 2499890 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill from the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and cast iron. The drill features a 1.5-inch (38.10 mm) cutting diameter, a 140-degree drill point angle, and an HPG insert geometry optimized for chip evacuation and cutting edge stability. The TiAlN coating is applied via PVD process, providing thermal resistance and wear protection during demanding drilling cycles. With two helical flutes and through-coolant capability including MQL support, this drill is built for production environments where tool life and process reliability are priorities.
This replaceable tip drill is used in machining applications targeting steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups P and K. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in fabrication shops, job shops, and production machining cells. The KSEM platform supports inclined exit drilling and stacked plate drilling operations, making it suitable for setups that demand consistent performance across varied fixturing and workpiece geometry. It is installed in standard KSEM drill body holders and is suitable for CNC machining centers and turning centers with coolant-through tooling capability.
Designed for use with KSEM series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 10. Compatible with primary workpiece materials in ISO P (steel) and ISO K (cast iron) material groups. ISO number KSEM1500HPG in manufacturer grade KC7315.
Installation and tip replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the replaceable tip. Use the appropriate KSEM torque key or clamping tool as specified by KENNAMETAL for the insert seat size to ensure proper tip seating - do not overtighten with non-specified tools. Verify coolant channel alignment before resuming operation to maintain through-coolant flow to the cutting edge.
