The KENNAMETAL 2499888 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity drilling in ferrous materials. It carries the KC7315 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and an HPG insert geometry. The 140-degree drill point angle and helical flute design support clean entry and efficient chip evacuation. The tip is made from fine grain solid carbide and is held in place by a clamp-style insert holding method. Integrated through-coolant channels support both flood coolant and minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) delivery. This tool is installed and used by machinists and CNC tool-room technicians in production and job-shop environments.
The 2499888 is suited for drilling operations in steel and cast iron, covering primary workpiece material codes P and K. Its application range includes standard through-drilling, inclined exit drilling, and stacked-plate drilling. The 2-flute, 2-margin configuration with through-coolant capability makes it a practical choice for tight-tolerance hole work on CNC machining centers where consistent tool life and repeatable geometry are required. Insert seat size 10 matches the corresponding KSEM shank body.
Designed as a replaceable tip insert for KSEM series drill bodies using insert seat size 10. Compatible primary workpiece materials are steel (P) and cast iron (K) as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation of replaceable carbide drill tips should be performed by qualified machinists following the tool manufacturer's clamping procedure for KSEM series bodies. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before seating or removing the tip insert. Confirm the insert seat is clean and free of chips before clamping to ensure proper seating and runout. Follow shop safety and machine guarding practices in accordance with applicable OSHA and ANSI B11 standards.
