The KENNAMETAL 2499873 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and cast iron. The drill accepts a solid carbide KSEM1125HPG tip with KC7315 fine-grain grade and a TiAlN PVD coating, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding ferrous machining applications. The 140-degree included angle and helical flute geometry support chip evacuation, while integrated through-coolant channels are compatible with both flood coolant and minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) delivery. Cutting diameter is 28.58 mm (1.125 inches). This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC tooling professionals in production and job-shop environments.
This replaceable tip drill is suited for drilling operations in steel and cast iron workpieces, including applications involving inclined exits, stacked plates, and through-coolant setups. The KSEM platform uses a clamp-style insert holding method with an insert seat size of 7, providing repeatable tip indexing without full tool replacement. The 2-flute, 2-margin configuration supports both precision and throughput in vertical machining centers and horizontal machining centers running ISO P and ISO K material groups.
Designed for use with KSEM series replaceable tip drill bodies accepting insert seat size 7 and the HPG insert geometry. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K). Suitable for inclined-exit and stacked-plate drilling applications as indicated in the product attributes.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the insert seat is clean and free of chips before seating the carbide tip, and verify clamp torque using the tooling manufacturer's recommended procedure for KSEM holders. Coolant passages should be confirmed clear before operation when using through-coolant or MQL delivery. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine tool manufacturer guidelines for toolholder setup and runout verification.
