The KENNAMETAL 2499864 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill from the KSEM series, designed for precision hole-making in steel and cast iron. The HPG insert geometry seats into a size-4 insert seat and is held in place by a clamp-style retention system. A PVD-applied TiAlN coating provides thermal and wear resistance during high-feed drilling operations. The 140-degree drill point angle suits standard through-drilling applications, and internal coolant-through passages support both flood coolant and MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubricant) delivery. Cutting diameter is 23.42 mm (59/64 inch). This tool is suited for machining professionals and tooling specialists working in production environments.
The 2499864 is built for drilling in steel and cast iron workpieces, covering ISO material groups P and K. Typical applications include straight through-drilling, inclined-exit drilling, and stacked-plate drilling. The 2-flute, 2-margin helical flute design promotes chip evacuation and hole-wall finish. The regular spiral and standard point type make this a general-production drilling insert suited to CNC machining centers and drill presses operating with coolant systems capable of through-tool delivery.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip insert for KSEM series drill bodies accepting size-4 insert seats. Compatible primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K).
Installation and tip indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician following the machine tool manufacturer's lockout/tagout procedure before any tool change. Use the appropriate torque wrench and Kennametal-specified clamping hardware to seat the insert; do not overtighten with makeshift tools. Verify coolant-through passages are clear and that the machine spindle coolant pressure is within the tool body manufacturer's specified range before resuming operation. Discard worn or chipped tips promptly - do not attempt to regrind replaceable carbide tips.
