The KENNAMETAL 2499857 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for precision hole-making in demanding production environments. It carries the KSEM0781HPG insert geometry with a KC7315 grade fine-grain carbide tip, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process for extended wear resistance and heat tolerance. The cutting diameter is 19.84 mm (0.7811 inches, nominally 25/32 inch), and the drill features a 140-degree included angle with a standard point type. Two helical flutes and a 2-margin design support chip evacuation and bore accuracy. Coolant-through capability, including compatibility with MQL (minimum quantity lubrication), makes this drill suitable for high-output CNC machining applications. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists install and qualify this tool.
This drill is engineered primarily for steel and cast iron workpieces, covering ISO material groups P (steel) and K (cast iron). Its HPG insert geometry and clamp-style insert holding method are optimized for drilling through-holes, drilling at inclined exits, and drilling stacked plates. The KSEM system uses an insert seat size 2 interface. The flute length is 10.00 mm and the functional length is 0.3905 inches, making it appropriate for shallow-to-moderate depth drilling cycles on vertical machining centers and CNC turning centers with live tooling.
Designed for use with KSEM series replaceable tip drill bodies accepting insert seat size 2. The KSEM0781HPG tip is the direct insert reference for this assembly. Confirmed primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K).
Installation and tool-change procedures should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state per applicable machine tool safety standards. Use the correct KSEM clamp torque driver and seat the carbide tip fully before applying clamping force to avoid tip misalignment or seat damage. Verify coolant-through passages are clear and that MQL or flood coolant is active before initiating the first cut. Inspect the insert seat for chips or contamination each time the tip is indexed or replaced.
