The KENNAMETAL 2499798 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert in the KSEM series, engineered for high-productivity hole-making in steel and cast iron. This tip carries the KC7315 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and a fine-grain carbide substrate, delivering excellent wear resistance and edge stability under demanding cutting conditions. The HPG insert geometry and 140-degree drill point angle promote accurate entry and clean chip evacuation. Cutting diameter is 28mm (1.1024 inches) with a flute length of 14mm (0.5510 inches). Internal coolant-through channels support both flood coolant and minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) delivery. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians working in production or job-shop environments are the primary installers.
This replaceable tip insert is suited for operations including standard through-hole drilling, inclined-exit drilling, and stacked-plate drilling. The two-flute, two-margin helical design with a regular spiral keeps the tool stable and self-centering across a range of workpiece setups. Primary workpiece material codes are P (steel) and K (cast iron), making this insert well matched to common ferrous machining applications in automotive, general manufacturing, and structural fabrication environments. The clamp-style insert holding method provides secure seating and repeatable runout when used with the appropriate KSEM insert seat size 6 drill body.
Designed for use with KSEM series drill bodies requiring insert seat size 6. Compatible primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO material code P) and cast iron (ISO material code K).
Installation and replacement of carbide tip inserts should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians with the machine powered off and locked out. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp hardware when seating the insert to ensure proper clamping force and runout accuracy. Verify coolant-through passages are clear and aligned before resuming operation. Never attempt to re-seat or tighten a loose insert while the spindle is running.
