The KENNAMETAL 2499795 is a carbide replaceable tip drill from the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and cast iron. The drill tip carries the ISO designation KSEM2700HPGM and uses a fine grain solid carbide insert in grade KC7315 with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. The HPG insert geometry and 140-degree drill point angle are optimized for chip control and cutting edge stability. Through-coolant capability, including MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubricant) support, enables heat management in demanding production environments. Licensed machinists and CNC machine operators use this tool for drilling into ferrous and gray iron workpieces where insert replaceability reduces per-hole tooling cost.
The KSEM series replaceable tip drill is suited for precision drilling operations in machining centers and CNC lathes processing steel (ISO material code P) and cast iron (ISO material code K). The HPG insert geometry supports inclined-exit drilling, stacked-plate drilling, and standard through-hole applications. The 2-flute, 2-margin helical flute configuration provides rigidity and surface finish quality across a range of depth-to-diameter ratios. Insert seat size 6 accepts the KSEM2700HPGM tip and locks via clamp holding method, allowing quick tip changes without removing the drill body from the spindle.
Designed for use with KSEM series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 6. The KSEM2700HPGM tip is compatible with drill bodies intended for 27mm cutting diameter. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K). Suitable for inclined-exit, stacked-plate, and through-coolant drilling operations as specified in the KSEM series application guidelines.
Installation and tip changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the spindle fully stopped and the machine placed in a locked-out, de-energized state before handling the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or clamp key for the insert seat size 6 clamp to seat the tip correctly against the pocket. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating the replacement tip, as contamination will affect runout and tool life. Follow shop coolant concentration and pressure settings appropriate for carbide tooling and the workpiece material being machined.
