The KENNAMETAL 2499779 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity drilling in metalworking and machining applications. The tip is manufactured from solid carbide with a fine-grain material grade and coated with TiAlN via a PVD process for wear resistance and thermal stability. The cutting diameter measures 22 millimeters (0.866 inches), the drill point angle is 140 degrees, and the design incorporates 2 flutes with a regular helical spiral. An integrated through-coolant system supports both flood coolant and MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubrication) delivery directly to the cutting zone. This tool is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job shop environments.
The 2499779 is suited for drilling operations in steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups P and K. The KSEM replaceable tip design allows the carbide insert to be swapped without removing the drill body from the machine, reducing downtime on high-volume production runs. It is engineered to handle demanding drilling scenarios including inclined exit surfaces and stacked plate configurations. The KC7315 manufacturer grade and HPG insert geometry are optimized for these work materials and cutting conditions. The insert seat size is 3, and the tool is secured via a clamp holding method.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip insert for KSEM series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 3. Compatible primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron (ISO material groups P and K).
Installation and tip replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine in a locked-out state. Seat and clamping surfaces should be cleaned before seating the new tip to ensure proper seating and runout. Consult the KSEM toolholder documentation for correct clamping torque and coolant connection procedures. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and facility safety guidelines when setting tool offsets after tip replacement.
