The KENNAMETAL 2499771 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and cast iron. The tip is manufactured from solid carbide with a fine grain substrate and coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, providing heat and wear resistance in demanding ferrous machining operations. The insert geometry is HPG, the drill point angle is 140 degrees, and the cutting diameter is 19.5mm (0.7677 inches). The drill body accepts an insert seat size 2 and uses a clamp holding method. Coolant-through capability supports both flood and MQL delivery. This tool is used by machinists and tooling specialists in production and job shop environments.
The 2499771 is suited for drilling operations in steel and cast iron across a range of applications including standard through-drilling, inclined exit surfaces, and stacked plate configurations. The two-flute, two-margin helical design with a regular spiral promotes chip evacuation and maintains hole quality. MQL and through-coolant compatibility makes it adaptable to both high-volume production cells and precision machining setups where coolant delivery must be controlled at the tool tip.
Designed as a replaceable tip insert for KSEM series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 2. ISO number KSEM1950HPGM. Compatible with steel and cast iron workpiece materials per primary workpiece material codes P and K.
Installation of replaceable tip drills should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out. The carbide tip must be seated fully and the clamp torqued to the tool manufacturer's specification using a calibrated torque wrench. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or contamination before seating a new tip. Verify coolant-through passages are clear before resuming operation to prevent tip overheating.
