The KENNAMETAL 2458916 is a solid carbide milling insert in the SDET series, designed for face and shoulder milling operations on cast iron workpieces. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 under manufacturer grade KCK15, which targets ferrous and cast iron material groups. The insert measures 0.1875 inches thick with an inscribed circle of 0.5000 inches and a corner radius of 0.0630 inches (1.60 mm). Holding is via screw clamp. This insert is a neutral-hand, square-profile style intended for use by machinists and CNC tooling specialists in production and job-shop environments.
The SDET120416SNGB2 insert is suited for milling cast iron components in both roughing and semi-finishing applications. The GB2 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation in cast iron cuts where abrasive wear resistance is a primary concern. The 90-degree included angle and 15-degree relief angle provide clearance geometry appropriate for shoulder and face milling tool bodies that accept SDET-style inserts. This insert is appropriate for production machining on CNC machining centers as well as manual milling machines where cast iron is the primary workpiece material.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for milling tool bodies that accept SDET-series square inserts with a 0.1732 inch hole diameter and 0.5000 inch inscribed circle, intended for cast iron milling applications (Material Application Code K).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque screwdriver or Torx key specified by the tool body manufacturer for the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping screw threads for wear or debris before seating the new insert.
