The KENNAMETAL 2458915 is a solid carbide milling insert in the SDET series, designed for high-performance milling operations in demanding industrial applications. Carrying the ISO designation SDET120416SNGB2, this insert features a square shape with a neutral hand orientation and a 15-degree relief angle. The multilayer PVD coating — TiN, TiCN, TiN — delivers heat resistance and wear protection suited to high-speed cutting. The corner radius measures 0.0630 inches (1.60 mm), and the inscribed circle diameter is 0.5000 inches. Insert thickness is 0.1875 inches. The GB2 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation across a range of feed rates and depths of cut.
This insert is engineered for milling of steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium — workpiece material codes P, M, and S per ISO classification. It is appropriate for roughing and semi-finishing operations where edge strength and coating durability are critical. The KC725M grade is positioned for interrupted cuts and conditions where thermal and mechanical shock resistance are required. Designed for use in SDET-series milling toolholders accepting a square insert with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, 0.1875-inch thickness, and screw-type holding method. Compatible with toolholder bores accommodating a 0.1732-inch (4.4 mm) mounting hole diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key per the toolholder manufacturer's specification when tightening the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert body. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before installing a new insert.
