The KENNAMETAL 2453684 is a solid carbide milling insert in an octagonal shape, designed for high-performance milling operations in demanding machining environments. Manufactured to the ISO code OFPT06L5AFENGB and ANSI code OFPT53AFEN4GB, this insert carries a KC725M grade designation and a physical vapor deposition (PVD) TiAlN coating for improved wear resistance and thermal stability. It features 8 cutting edges, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, and a honed cutting edge style. The insert measures 0.1969 inches thick with a 0.5787-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0315-inch corner radius. Installed via screw-holding method, it is suitable for use in KSOM cutter series toolholders. This is a single-sided, neutral-hand insert.
This insert is intended for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, covering material grades C5, C6, and C7 (ISO material codes P, M, and S). It is well-suited for finish and semi-finish milling applications where consistent edge performance and chip control are required. The GB chip breaker geometry supports reliable chip evacuation across these material groups. Maximum depth of cut is 0.2360 inches. It is typically installed by machinists and CNC tooling specialists in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use with the KSOM cutter series. Conforms to ISO standard OFPT06L5AFENGB and ANSI standard OFPT53AFEN4GB. Insert size code 53 with an inscribed circle range of 0.5100 to 0.6000 inches and a length range of 0.5000 to 0.6000 inches.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Secure the insert using the specified clamping screw and torque per the toolholder manufacturer documentation. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and alignment.
