The KENNAMETAL 2449518 is a carbide replaceable tip drill from the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and cast iron. The drill accepts a solid carbide KSEM tip with an HPG insert geometry and a 140-degree drill point angle, delivering sharp, accurate entry in demanding metal-cutting operations. A TiAlN coating applied via PVD process improves wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting zone. With through-coolant capability including MQL support, the 2449518 is built for modern CNC machining environments where tool life and chip evacuation are critical. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this tool in machining centers and drill presses serving production and job-shop environments.
The KSEM 2449518 is suited for drilling into steel and cast iron workpieces in both production and job-shop settings. Its 23mm cutting diameter and helical, 2-flute, 2-margin geometry make it appropriate for applications requiring consistent hole quality. The design supports inclined-exit drilling and stacked-plate drilling, expanding its usefulness beyond standard through-hole operations. MQL and through-coolant compatibility supports both wet and near-dry cutting strategies, making it adaptable to a range of machine tool setups.
Designed as a replaceable tip for KSEM series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 4. Compatible with ISO Number KSEM2300HPGM. Intended for use with steel and cast iron workpieces, classified under primary workpiece material codes P and K.
Installation and tip replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully powered down and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp hardware specified for KSEM insert seat size 4 to secure the replaceable tip. Inspect the insert seat for damage or chips before seating a new tip. Confirm coolant passages are clear before returning the tool to service.
