The KENNAMETAL 2425780 is a solid carbide turning insert with a CPMT21505LF designation and KC5025 grade, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC turning, facing, and boring operations. The insert features a physical vapor deposition (PVD) TiAlN coating that provides moderate wear resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. With an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, and an 11-degree relief angle, the geometry supports controlled chip formation during finishing and light machining passes. The LF chip breaker is optimized for low-feed finishing applications. Qualified machinists and CNC programmers install this insert into compatible screw-on toolholders.
This insert is suited for finishing and light machining of stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, steel, cast iron, and aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The KC5025 grade delivers moderate wear resistance balanced with toughness, making it a reliable choice for interrupted or variable-surface cuts at controlled depths. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm) and a corner radius of 0.0079 inches, this insert is intended for tight-tolerance finish passes. It is applicable in both ANSI and ISO tooling systems, conforming to ANSI Insert Code CPMT21505 and ISO Insert Code CPMT060202.
Designed for use in screw-on style toolholders that accept CPMT-style inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with multi-use turning, facing, and boring applications across ANSI size code 21505 and ISO size code 060202 toolholder designations.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before replacing or indexing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the screw-on fastener according to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and dimensional repeatability.
