The KENNAMETAL 2405388 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-performance milling in cast iron applications. Manufactured to the SDPT1204PDSRGB2 ISO designation, this square insert features a multi-layer CVD coating system of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 that delivers wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. With a 1/2 inch inscribed circle, a thickness of 3/16 inch, and a corner radius of 1/32 inch, the insert is built for the precise dimensional requirements of indexable milling toolholders. Right-hand cutting geometry and a GB2 chip breaker combine to manage chip flow and reduce cutting forces on cast iron workpieces. Licensed HVAC or machining professionals install this insert using a screw-holding method in compatible SDPT-series milling bodies.
This insert is intended for milling cast iron workpieces in industrial machining environments. The KCK15 manufacturer grade is optimized for cast iron material applications, classified under ISO material grade K and material application code K. The 90-degree included angle and 15-degree relief angle suit square shoulder and face milling operations. The GB2 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation in interrupted and continuous cast iron cuts. Typical users include CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals running indexable milling cutters in production or job-shop settings.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for SDPT-series indexable milling toolholders accepting square inserts with a 1/2 inch inscribed circle, 3/16 inch thickness, and screw-lock mounting. Compatible toolholders must accommodate right-hand insert geometry and a 0.1732 inch mounting hole diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle completely before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket locating surfaces before torquing the clamping screw; follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specification for the screw size used. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for wear or damage at each insert change to prevent seating errors that can cause premature insert failure.
