The KENNAMETAL 2405386 is a solid carbide milling insert with ISO code SDPT1204PDERGB2, designed for use in indexable milling toolholders. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during interrupted and continuous cutting operations. The insert is square in shape with a 90-degree included angle, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 3/16-inch thickness. The GB2 chip breaker geometry manages chip flow across a range of feed rates. This insert is installed by machinists and tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments running milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys including titanium.
The SDPT series insert in KCPK30 grade is suited for milling applications where workpiece materials span ISO material groups P, M, K, and S. Typical use cases include face milling, shoulder milling, and copy milling on carbon and alloy steels, austenitic stainless steels, gray and nodular cast irons, and nickel- or titanium-based superalloys. The right-hand configuration and screw-holding method make this insert compatible with toolholders engineered for the SDPT insert style. It is sold in minimum order quantities of 5 inserts.
Designed for use in indexable milling toolholders that accept SDPT-style square inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and screw-clamp retention. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys and titanium (ISO material groups P, M, K, and S).
This insert is seated and secured by a toolholder screw; use a calibrated torque wrench and follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque specification for the insert screw. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or burrs before installing a new insert, as debris under the insert seat affects runout and edge life. Always disengage the spindle and confirm the machine is in a safe lockout state before indexing or replacing inserts. Handle solid carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping cutting edges prior to use.
