The KENNAMETAL 2390299 is a solid carbide milling insert manufactured to ISO code SDET120412PDERGB2 and offered in the KCPK30 grade. It features a square insert shape with a 90-degree included angle, a 0.0469-inch (1.20 mm) corner radius, and a 0.5-inch inscribed circle. The insert is CVD-coated with a three-layer TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 stack, providing thermal resistance and wear protection during interrupted and continuous milling cuts. At 0.1875 inches thick and weighing approximately 0.02 pounds, it is designed for screw-held toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC mill operators install this insert in compatible SDET-series milling bodies.
This insert is suited for milling applications across a broad range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, K, and S. The GB2 chip breaker geometry is designed to control chip formation across these varying material hardnesses and feed conditions. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose milling operations where a right-hand, positive-relief insert geometry is required. The 15-degree relief angle supports reduced cutting forces and improved surface finish on difficult-to-machine materials.
Designed for use in SDET-series milling cutter bodies that accept square screw-held inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 0.1875-inch thickness, and a 0.1732-inch hole diameter. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert size code 433 compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Seat the insert firmly in the pocket and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification using a calibrated torque wrench. Inspect the pocket seat and screw threads for wear or debris before reinstalling to maintain proper insert location and cutting geometry.
