The KENNAMETAL 2390288 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ISO designation SDET1204PDERGB2 and manufactured to grade KC725M. This square-shaped, right-hand insert features a multilayer PVD coating of TiN, TiCN, and TiN applied over a solid carbide substrate, delivering the wear resistance and edge toughness needed in demanding milling operations. It has a 15-degree relief angle, a 0.0315-inch corner radius, an inscribed circle of 0.5000 inches, and a thickness of 0.1875 inches. The GB2 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across a range of cutting conditions. Licensed contractors and machining professionals install this insert in compatible milling toolholders using a screw-clamp holding method.
This insert is rated for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, and S. The KC725M grade and PVD coating combination make it well suited for both roughing and semi-finishing passes on difficult-to-machine alloys. Typical applications include face milling and shoulder milling operations on CNC machining centers in production and job-shop environments. The SDET series designation and size code 43 identify the insert family and body dimensions for proper toolholder matching.
Designed for use in SDET-series compatible milling toolholders accepting a square insert with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, 0.1875-inch thickness, and screw-clamp holding. Verify toolholder specifications against ISO code SDET1204PDERGB2 before installation.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before handling inserts or adjusting the toolholder. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench and clamping screw to seat the insert; do not over-tighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for damage or debris before installing a new insert.
