The KENNAMETAL 2384517 is a carbide thread mill insert designed for internal thread milling operations. Manufactured in insert style STN with a KC635M grade carbide substrate, this insert features a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) PVD coating for extended tool life and heat resistance at elevated cutting speeds. It is configured for UN (Unified National) thread standards at 14 teeth per inch (TPI). The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch (9.53 mm). Machinists and CNC operators use this insert in thread milling toolholders to produce precise internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces.
This insert is suited for internal thread milling in CNC machining center environments where UN-standard threads are required. At 14 TPI, it covers common fractional thread sizes encountered in general machining, tooling, and industrial fastener applications. The PVD-applied TiAlN coating supports dry or minimal-lubrication cutting strategies, making it appropriate for production environments focused on reducing coolant consumption without sacrificing tool life or thread quality.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement carbide thread mill insert for use in STN-style thread milling toolholders configured for UN internal threading applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping procedure - do not overtighten the clamping screw. Verify insert seating and runout before resuming cutting operations.
