The KENNAMETAL 2273020 is a right-hand DDQN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built on the Kenclamp series platform, it features a negative rake angle of -7 degrees and a 27.5-degree lead angle, geometry suited for heavy interrupted cuts and general-purpose turning with negative-rake inserts. The steel shank measures 1 inch wide by 1 inch tall with an overall length of 6 inches. This holder accepts DN..43. style inserts secured by a top clamp, making insert changes straightforward in production environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.
This toolholder is intended for use in production turning applications where rigid, consistent insert clamping is required. It is well suited for steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpiece materials in both roughing and semi-finish passes. The 1 x 1 inch shank fits standard OD turning positions on gang-tooled lathes and turret-style CNC turning centers. Coolant-through capability is not supported on this holder, making it appropriate for flood-coolant or dry-cutting setups. It ships as a single unit with a minimum order quantity of one.
Designed for use with DN..43. series (DN.. 432) negative-rake indexable inserts with a 0.5-inch (1/2 inch) inscribed circle. Compatible insert and shank details are confirmed by Kennametal catalog number DDQNR L164DKC3.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or removing the toolholder from the turret or gang plate. Verify the shank bore or mounting block matches the 1 x 1 inch shank profile and that the tool is seated and torqued to the machine manufacturer's specified clamp bolt values. Inspect insert seating, clamp condition, and tool overhang before resuming cutting operations.
