The KENNAMETAL 2271072 is a solid carbide milling insert with ISO designation EDPT180532PDERGD and manufacturer grade KC725M. This single-sided, parallelogram-shaped insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, a positive rake geometry, and a honed cutting edge style for clean, controlled material removal. With a 15-degree relief angle, a 0.125-inch corner radius, and two cutting edges per insert, it is engineered for face milling and shoulder milling applications where surface finish and tool life in difficult materials are the primary concerns. The insert is held in place by a screw-type clamping method and is right-hand oriented. It is sized to fit the Mill 1-18 cutter series and meets both ANSI and ISO standards.
This insert is designed for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium — material grade codes P, M, and S. Typical applications include face milling, high-feed roughing, and finishing passes in aerospace, oil and gas, and general metalworking environments where a tough PVD-coated carbide grade is required. The GD chip breaker geometry promotes effective chip evacuation and helps manage cutting forces when working with high-strength or work-hardening materials. Machinists and CNC programmers running Mill 1-18 toolholders will find this insert a direct fit for production runs requiring tight tolerances and consistent edge performance.
Compatible with the Kennametal Mill 1-18 cutter series. Insert size code is 1832, with a right-hand orientation. Fits toolholders designed for the EDPT series insert style.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the screw-type clamping system — follow the toolholder manufacturer's specified fastener torque procedure. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for damage or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
