The KENNAMETAL 2244984 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG style, designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining applications. Running uncoated in the K313 grade, this insert targets non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium where sharp, uncoated edges outperform coated alternatives. It features a 35-degree diamond shape, a negative rake geometry with a 13-degree rake angle, and a honed cutting edge for stability under load. The MS chip breaker geometry assists in chip control during turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. Machinists and tooling specialists working on CNC lathes and turning centers are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is suited for light to moderate material removal on non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The KENLOC series designation indicates compatibility with KENLOC-style toolholders that accept VNMG inserts. With four available cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, it adapts to a range of turning setups without requiring dedicated right- or left-hand tooling. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), making it appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes where dimensional accuracy and surface finish quality are priorities.
Designed for use in KENLOC-style VNMG insert toolholders. Compatible with applications involving non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. Insert conforms to ANSI and ISO VNMG332MS industry standard geometry.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians on CNC or manual turning equipment. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Secure the insert using the specified clamp and pin holding method; do not overtighten the clamp screw beyond toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and edge positioning.
