The KENNAMETAL 2244905 is a TNMG432MS solid carbide turning insert with a KC5010 grade PVD TiAlN coating, designed for external and internal turning operations in demanding production environments. The triangular insert geometry provides 6 usable cutting edges, maximizing tool life per insert. With a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.0313 inch corner radius, and a 22 mm insert length, this insert fits KENLOC-style toolholders using clamp and pin holding methods. The MS chip breaker geometry is rated for roughing through medium machining, and the honed cutting edge style adds edge strength when working harder materials. Installation and operation are handled by machinists and CNC operators in metalworking shops.
This insert is optimized for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, and superalloys and titanium, with secondary suitability for cast iron and non-ferrous materials. The KC5010 grade delivers high wear resistance combined with moderate toughness across the P, M, K, N, and S material categories. The negative rake and negative side clearance geometry suit heavy interrupted and continuous cuts where edge stability is critical. It is well suited to turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job shop settings.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept TNMG432 inserts with clamp and pin retention. Conforms to ANSI insert code TNMG432 and ISO insert code TNMG220408. Material grade classifications C3 and C4 apply.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamping screw or pin to prevent movement during cutting. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris prior to installation to ensure proper support and edge alignment.
