The KENNAMETAL 2244886 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the CNMG543MS industry standard designation and manufactured in the KC5010 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. This insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 3/64-inch corner radius with a honed cutting edge style. The MS chip breaker geometry is engineered for roughing and medium machining operations. With four usable cutting edges, a negative rake angle, and negative side clearance, this insert is designed for clamp and pin holding systems. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The KC5010 grade delivers high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance with toughness across steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) material categories, as well as aluminum and non-ferrous (N) and superalloys and titanium (S) applications. Typical use cases include interrupted and continuous cuts in general production and heavy roughing environments where tool life and edge security are critical. The maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm).
Designed as an OEM-specification replacement insert conforming to ANSI insert code CNMG543 and ISO insert code CNMG160612, fitting toolholders designed for CNMG-style inserts in the KENLOC series with a 0.25-inch hole diameter and clamp or pin holding.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard CNC or manual lathe toolholder procedures. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or rotating the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping hardware are free of chips and wear before installing a fresh cutting edge. Inspect the chip breaker seat and clamp torque per the toolholder manufacturer guidelines — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert body.
