The KENNAMETAL 2238546 is a KSEM-series replaceable-tip drill designed for precision hole-making in metalworking and machining operations. It accepts KSEM0859 inserts at insert seat size 3, delivering a drilling diameter range of 21.82 to 22 mm (0.8591 to 0.8661 inches) with a maximum drill depth of 65.48 mm (2.58 inches). The body features a 25.4 mm straight-cylindrical shank and an overall length of 6.63 inches, making it compatible with standard toolholders on CNC machining centers and lathes. Through-coolant capability is built in, supporting high-pressure coolant delivery directly to the cutting edge. This drill body is sized and engineered for use by machinists and CNC operators working in production environments.
The 2238546 is suited for production drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where consistent bore diameter and depth control are required. Its 3xD depth-to-diameter ratio supports a maximum depth range of 60 to 80 mm, making it well-matched to medium-depth hole applications in automotive, aerospace, die-and-mold, and general metalworking. The replaceable-tip design reduces downtime by allowing insert changes at the machine without removing the drill body from the toolholder. Machinists running high-volume part programs benefit from the predictable insert seating provided by the fixed seat size 3 configuration.
Compatible with KSEM0859 replaceable drill-tip inserts at insert seat size 3. Designed for use in the KENNAMETAL KSEM replaceable-tip drill system. Fits toolholders accepting a 25.4 mm straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and insert changes should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's lockout and tool-change procedures. Confirm the toolholder bore is clean and free of chips before seating the shank to the specified clamping torque listed in the machine or toolholder documentation. Through-coolant connections must be verified and sealed before running at pressure to prevent coolant bypass. Inspect the insert seat for wear or debris before each insert change to maintain bore diameter accuracy.
