The KENNAMETAL 2238542 is a replaceable-tip drill body in the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity metal-cutting operations on CNC machining centers and drill presses. It accepts KSEM0781 insert tips at an insert seat size 2, allowing quick tip changes without removing the body from the spindle. The drill covers a diameter range of 19.84 to 20 mm (0.7811 to 0.7874 inches) and reaches a maximum drill depth of 59.53 mm (2.34 inches), delivering a 3xD depth-to-diameter ratio. Through-coolant delivery via a 3.50 mm (0.138-inch) coolant hole keeps the cutting zone clear of chips and controls heat at the insert tip. This tool body is installed and serviced by machinists and toolroom professionals working in production or job-shop environments.
The 2238542 is suited for drilling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where repeatable hole diameter and depth are critical. The straight-cylindrical shank at 25.40 mm diameter fits standard ER and hydraulic chuck toolholders commonly found on VMCs, HMCs, and turret lathes. With an overall length of 6.25 inches and a flute length of 3.09 inches, the body fits typical tool-magazine envelope requirements. The KSEM platform is designed for high-feed, high-volume drilling in production settings where insert-tip replacement time must be minimized.
Compatible with KSEM0781 insert tips at insert seat size 2. Part of the KENNAMETAL KSEM series replaceable-tip drill platform. Designed for use with 25.40 mm straight-cylindrical shank toolholders.
Installation and tip changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and all energy sources locked out per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Seat and tip contact surfaces should be cleaned and inspected before seating a new insert tip; debris under the tip can cause runout or premature failure. Confirm through-coolant supply pressure and flow rate are within the toolholder and machine specifications before engaging the cut. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and KENNAMETAL KSEM assembly instructions for correct insert clamping torque using calibrated tooling.
