The KENNAMETAL 2234824 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries the R0305M0GMN designation, indicating a neutral-hand geometry with a 3.05 mm cutting width and a 1.53 mm corner radius. The KC5010 grade substrate is PVD-coated with TiAlN, delivering strong wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. Maximum depth of cut is 2.60 mm, making this insert well suited for shallow to medium-depth groove profiles. Machinists and tool setters working in production turning environments rely on this insert for consistent chip control and dimensional repeatability.
This insert fits Series A4 grooving toolholders and is intended for use in ferrous and non-ferrous material grades C3 and C4. The GMN chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip evacuation in tight groove profiles. Typical applications include OD grooving, undercut operations, and recessing on parts requiring close tolerance groove widths. The full-radius geometry suits snap-ring grooves and similar profiles where a radiused floor is specified. This insert is a metric-measurement type and is indexed from the Kennametal A4 series catalog under manufacturer catalog number A4R0305M03U00GMN.
Designed for use with Kennametal Series A4 grooving toolholders. Material grades C3 and C4. Manufacturer catalog number A4R0305M03U00GMN.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tool-crib technician with the machine spindle stopped and in a locked or e-stopped state. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications printed in the holder documentation. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating to prevent insert rocking. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specification for this insert grade and geometry.
