The KENNAMETAL 2229662 is a DNMG431MS KC5025 grade solid carbide turning insert with a physical vapor deposition (PVD) TiAlN coating. It features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a negative rake angle of 13 degrees. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, the insert length is 15.5 mm (0.6102 inches), and the corner radius is 1/64 inch (0.0156 inches). With four usable cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is suited to moderate wear-resistance and toughness demands across multiple workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians install and index this insert in KENLOC-series toolholders.
This insert targets turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on stainless steel, steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and superalloys including titanium (ISO material codes P, M, K, N, S). The MS chip breaker geometry is designed for roughing and medium machining cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). It is part of the KENLOC series and conforms to ANSI insert code DNMG431 and ISO insert code DNMG150404. The KC5025 grade delivers a balance of wear resistance and toughness for interrupted and continuous cuts in demanding materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-stock insert for KENLOC-series toolholders accepting DNMG431 (ANSI) or DNMG150404 (ISO) inserts with a negative rake and clamp or pin holding method.
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and all energy sources locked out per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torque driver or clamping screw specified for the toolholder to seat the insert fully against the pocket walls. Inspect the insert pocket for wear, debris, or damage before seating a new or indexed edge. Do not use a damaged or chipped insert edge, as it can increase cutting forces and risk tool or workpiece damage.
