The KENNAMETAL 2229657 is a CNMG432MS indexable turning insert in the KC5010 grade, designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a TiAlN PVD coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding cutting applications. The 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and 4 cutting edges per insert makes it a cost-effective choice for high-volume turning operations. The MS chip breaker geometry and honed cutting edge are engineered specifically for controlled chip formation in finishing and semi-finishing passes. Installed by machining professionals, this insert fits standard CNMG toolholders using clamp and pin retention systems.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Its KC5010 PVD-coated carbide grade is optimized for these primary workpiece materials, including difficult-to-machine alloys where heat generation and edge stability are critical concerns. The KENLOC series designation indicates compatibility with Kennametal KENLOC-style toolholding systems. The MS chip breaker geometry supports consistent chip control across a range of feed rates and depths of cut up to 1.25 mm, making it appropriate for both production turning and job shop environments on modern CNC equipment.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders using clamp and pin insert holding methods. Compatible with KENLOC series Kennametal toolholding systems. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards for CNMG432 geometry.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for debris or damage before seating the insert, and use the appropriate torque wrench for the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut rating for the insert grade and chip breaker combination.
