The KENNAMETAL 2229644 is a solid carbide turning insert with a DNGG431FS industry standard designation and KC5010 manufacturer grade. It features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that delivers high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The insert has a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch (0.0156 inches) corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. Chip breaker style is FS, optimized for finishing operations. Four cutting edges are available per insert. The insert is held using a clamp and pin method and is compatible with the KENLOC toolholding series. It weighs approximately 0.05 pounds.
This insert is suited for finishing cuts on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium in turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. The FS chip breaker and honed cutting edge style make it appropriate for light, precise passes where surface finish and dimensional control are priorities. It is used in both CNC and manual lathe setups in production and job-shop environments. The negative rake geometry and negative side clearance are consistent with rigid, stable toolholder setups. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in metalworking shops are the primary users.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders accepting DNGG431 inserts. Conforms to ANSI insert code DNGG431 and ISO insert code DNGG150404. Suitable for multi-use applications including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and the spindle locked before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the KENLOC toolholder to seat the clamp and pin securely. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert edge. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut rating for finishing operations, as this insert is not intended for heavy roughing passes.
