The KENNAMETAL 2229412 is a solid carbide milling insert in the OFKT series, designed for face milling and shoulder milling operations on a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. This insert carries the ISO designation OFKT07L6AFSNHB and the ANSI code OFKT64AFSN6HB. It features a CVD-applied triple-layer coating of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 under the KCPK30 grade, providing thermal resistance and wear performance in interrupted and continuous cuts. The octagon insert geometry delivers 8 available cutting edges per insert, improving cost-per-edge economics in production environments. A positive rake angle of 5 degrees and chamfered plus honed cutting edge preparation reduce cutting forces and extend tool life in demanding applications.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, K, and S. The HB chip breaker geometry is engineered to manage chip flow across these material types. It is compatible with KENNAMETAL KSOM cutter series toolholders and is held in position by a screw clamping method. This insert is appropriate for CNC machining centers and milling machines in both production shop and job shop environments. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists are the primary installers and users of this insert.
Compatible with KENNAMETAL KSOM cutter series toolholders using screw-mount insert retention. ISO code OFKT07L6AFSNHB and ANSI code OFKT64AFSN6HB are the recognized designations for cross-referencing with equivalent insert seats.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before handling, indexing, or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer for the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket seat for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
