The KENNAMETAL 2220319 is a solid carbide milling insert in the SEHW series, designed for face and shoulder milling applications in cast iron workpieces. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 applied via MTCVD process, giving the KCK15 grade strong wear resistance and thermal stability under continuous cutting loads. The insert measures 0.5 inches square with a thickness of 0.1875 inches and features a T-Land cutting edge style with a positive rake geometry. A 1.00 mm (0.0394 inch) corner radius and neutral hand orientation make this insert adaptable to a range of face mill bodies and milling cutter heads.
This insert is intended for professional machining environments where cast iron is the primary workpiece material. The SEHW1204AFTN ISO designation and SEHW43A6T ANSI code identify its precise geometry for tooling selection. With four available cutting edges per insert and a screw-in holding method, it suits high-volume production milling setups where edge economy matters. Designed for use in SEHW-series milling cutter bodies accepting SEHW1204 geometry inserts. Conforms to ANSI code SEHW43A6T and ISO code SEHW1204AFTN. Verify cutter body seat dimensions against the thickness range of 0.1850 to 0.2000 inches and inscribed circle range of 0.5000 to 0.5100 inches before installing.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the clamping screw as specified by the cutter body manufacturer — do not overtighten, as solid carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to cracking under excessive clamping force. Inspect the cutter body pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert.
