The KENNAMETAL 2210097 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ISO designation SDKT1204EDSRGP and ANSI code SDKT43EDSR8GP. It is manufactured to the KCPK30 grade and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 for wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert is square in shape with a 90-degree included angle, a positive rake geometry of 30 degrees, and a 15-degree relief angle. Four cutting edges are available per insert, with a right-hand cutting orientation and chamfered plus honed edge preparation. The GP chip breaker geometry is suited to general-purpose milling operations. This insert is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians working with indexable milling toolholders that accept SDKT-series inserts.
This insert is designed for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium — material application codes P, M, K, and S. It fits production and job-shop milling environments, including face milling and shoulder milling operations where consistent edge geometry and coating durability are required. The screw-holding method provides secure clamping in compatible toolholders. The positive rake and honed edge prep reduce cutting forces and improve surface finish when working with difficult-to-machine alloys such as titanium and nickel-based superalloys.
Designed for use in indexable milling toolholders that accept SDKT-series square inserts with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and screw clamping. Compatible with SDKT insert pockets per ANSI and ISO standards. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert size code 43 compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Disengage and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid seat damage or screw failure — do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert, and confirm the correct cutting edge is presented before resuming operation.
