The KENNAMETAL 2047470 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and similar workpiece materials. The tip carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. At 0.6252 inches (15.88mm) cutting diameter, it features a 140-degree drill point angle, two helical flutes, and a two-margin geometry suited to accurate, stable drilling. The HP insert geometry is clamped into the drill body and indexed or replaced without disturbing the holder. Machinists and toolroom professionals in production and job-shop environments are the primary users.
This replaceable tip drill is intended for steel machining applications, with a primary workpiece material code of P per ISO classification. The KSEM series supports operations including standard drilling, inclined exit drilling, and stacked-plate drilling. The two-flute, two-margin configuration with helical flute geometry promotes chip evacuation and hole quality in through and blind-hole applications. Coolant-through capability is not included on this tip. The insert seat size is 1, corresponding to the KSEM body family for this diameter range.
Designed for use with KSEM series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 1. Compatible applications include steel drilling with inclined exit and stacked-plate configurations as noted in product specifications. Refer to the KSEM body selection guide for correct holder pairing at this diameter.
Installation and tip replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp screw specified for the KSEM body to seat the tip securely — do not overtighten with improvised tools. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating a new tip. Verify runout after installation before resuming production cuts.
