The KENNAMETAL 2047429 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and similar ferrous workpiece materials. The solid carbide tip carries the KC7315 manufacturer grade with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, providing thermal resistance and edge wear protection during aggressive drilling operations. The cutting diameter measures 7/8 inch (0.8752 inch decimal, 22.23 mm), and the drill features a 140-degree point angle with a standard point type. Two helical flutes and a 2-margin geometry support chip evacuation and bore accuracy. The tip is secured by a clamp-style insert holding method and seats in an insert seat size 4 body. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers of this tooling.
This replaceable tip drill is suited for drilling operations in steel workpieces, including inclined exit conditions and stacked plate configurations. The KSEM series design targets production machining environments where tip replacement speed and consistent hole geometry are priorities. The 2-flute, 2-margin, coolant-ready body geometry supports stable cutting in both through-hole and interrupted-exit drilling scenarios. Coolant-through capability is not present on this tip. The functional length is 0.4375 inch (7/16 inch), making it appropriate for shallow-to-moderate depth drilling applications.
Designed for use with KSEM series insert seat size 4 drill bodies. The ISO number for this tip is KSEM0875HP. Compatible bodies must accept the HP insert geometry in seat size 4. No additional compatible model numbers were specified in the product data.
Installation and tip replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer lockout and spindle-stop procedures before handling cutting inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the drill body manufacturer - do not substitute fasteners or over-torque the clamp. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating the new tip to ensure full contact and accurate runout. Verify correct tip orientation and seating before resuming machining operations.
