The KENNAMETAL 1986652 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding production environments. It features a 140-degree point angle for improved centering and reduced thrust on entry, along with a TiAlN coating that extends tool life in high-heat applications. The drill measures 8.20 mm in diameter with an overall length of 103.00 mm (4.055 inches) and a flute length of 61.00 mm (2.402 inches). A web-thinned, parallel web configuration reduces cutting forces at the chisel edge. Internal coolant-through capability allows cutting fluid delivery directly to the cutting zone, supporting higher feed rates and longer tool life in steel and stainless steel applications.
This drill is suited for CNC machining centers and production drilling operations in metalworking shops, tool rooms, and manufacturing facilities. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous metals. Designed as a DIN 6537L-specification jobber drill for use in CNC machining centers and manual drill presses with standard ER collet chucks or drill chucks accepting a 10 mm straight cylindrical shank. Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state. Confirm collet or chuck runout is within tolerance before use, as excessive runout accelerates carbide tool wear and can cause premature breakage. Coolant-through tooling requires that the machine spindle coolant circuit is active and delivering adequate flow before cutting begins. Handle solid carbide tools carefully to avoid edge chipping from contact with hard surfaces.
