The KENNAMETAL 1953182 is an indexable grooving and cutoff toolholder designed for external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built in a left-hand configuration, it accepts A4..03.. series inserts secured by a clamp-style holding method for rigid, repeatable positioning. The toolholder supports a minimum groove width of 3 mm (0.118 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 17 mm (0.670 inches), making it suitable for moderate-depth grooving and parting applications. The square shank measures 25.4 x 25.4 mm (1.000 x 1.000 inches) with an overall length of 152.40 mm (6.000 inches). This is a Series A4, A4SM-style holder intended for professional machinists and toolroom technicians.
This toolholder is suited for external grooving and cutoff work on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces in production and job-shop turning environments. The left-hand orientation positions the cutting edge for specific spindle directions and turret configurations. It is used in applications where precise groove width control and consistent depth of cut are required. Coolant-through capability is not included in this holder, so flood or mist coolant delivery through the machine turret or nozzle is the standard approach for chip and heat management.
Designed for use with A4..03.. series indexable inserts. Toolholder style is A4SM, Series A4. Verify turret bore size and tooling block dimensions before installation to confirm shank fitment.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and in a locked-out, tagged-out state per applicable safety procedures. Seat the shank fully in the turret block and torque the clamping screws evenly using calibrated tooling to the machine or tooling manufacturer specifications. Confirm insert seating and clamp engagement before running. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping wedge for debris or wear at each insert change.
