The KENNAMETAL 1952777 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the R0505M0GMN profile in the A4 series, it features a 5.05 mm (0.1988 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 4.10 mm (0.1614 inch). The insert is coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, providing thermal resistance and wear protection during high-speed interrupted cuts. A full-radius corner geometry with a 0.0994 inch corner radius and GMN chip breaker geometry help control chip flow in tight grooving applications. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians working in production turning environments.
The 1952777 insert is suited for grooving and parting operations across a range of workpiece materials, corresponding to material grades C2 and C6. Its neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to standard right-hand or centerline tooling setups. The A4 series designation indicates compatibility with A4-style insert pockets. The GMN chip breaker is optimized for controlled chip formation in medium-depth groove profiles, making this insert well-suited for production runs requiring consistent groove geometry and surface finish on steel and cast iron workpieces.
Designed for use in A4-series grooving toolholders and insert pockets. Manufacturer catalog reference number A4R0505M05U00GMN. Compatible with tooling setups rated for material grades C2 and C6.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or insert-clamping key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert; do not overtighten by hand or with non-specified tools. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and prevent premature edge failure.
