The KENNAMETAL 1952774 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Running in the KC5010 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of workpiece materials classified under C3 and C4 material grades. It carries a 4.05 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 3.40 mm, making it suitable for medium-depth groove profiles. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard straight-plunge grooving applications. This insert belongs to the Series A4 product family and uses a GMN chip breaker geometry engineered to manage chip flow in grooving cuts.
This insert is intended for use in production turning environments where consistent groove width and controlled chip evacuation are priorities. It fits turning centers equipped with compatible A4-series grooving toolholders. The full-radius corner geometry, with a corner radius of 2.03 mm, suits contour grooving and radius-bottom groove profiles. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, tier-one manufacturing, and general metalworking will find this insert applicable to steel, stainless, and cast-iron workpieces within the C3 and C4 material grade designations.
Designed for use with Series A4 grooving toolholders. Manufacturer catalog reference number A4R0405M04U00GMN. Insert seat size 4. Verify toolholder compatibility with A4-series insert specifications before installation.
This insert is installed and serviced by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torx or clamping key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert at the proper clamping torque - do not over-torque the clamp screw. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris or damage before each insert change to ensure accurate seating and repeatable cutting geometry.
